Weardale Railway Inspections and Assessments

  • Project Type: Asset Management
  • Client: Faithful and Gould on behalf of Weardale Railway Trust
  • Location: Weardale, UK

About this Project

ECSL have been engaged to undertake the inspection and assessment of all railway bridges along the Weardale Railway heritage line, originally constructed in 1842.

Our skilled bridge examiners and specialists in heritage bridge structures delivered the inspections utilizing a mixture of physical examination and photogrammetry, saving time on site and reducing the overall cost to the client. ECSL were supported during the inspections by Inspire Structures Ltd, who undertook the difficult access surveys utilizing roped access and confined space trained bridge examiners.

Using the photogrammetric survey data gathered on site, the same engineers that undertook the exams went on to complete the structural assessments, reducing the data degradation that can sometimes occur between site and office based activities.

Roles and Responsibility

ECSL were subcontracted to F+G for this project but were responsible for leading both the site and office-based activities including sub-contracting the difficult access surveys.
